2020 Lancers Forever Golf Outing and Hall-of-Fame Banquet
Our 2020 Hall-of-Fame event was a great success with over 100 golfers and more than 130 people attending the banquet. We inducted our 5th Lancers Forever Hall-of-Fame Class. This was the first class to induct members from other sports besides football, and included our first female athlete and coach. Our Hall-of-Fame page will be updated soon with each new member’s profile proudly displayed.
We also awarded the annual George Sahadi Memorial Scholarships to two deserving young scholar athletes.
2017 BGFA Gathering
Our 3rd annual BGFA gathering was held at Starr Detroit Academy (the old Bishop Gallagher High School building) on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. We inducted our second class into the Lancers Forever Hall of Fame. The 2017 class included 16 former teammates. See the Hall of Fame page for the names and bios of this year's inductees.
We also recognized the 25th anniversary of Bishop Gallagher’s first-ever football state championship game. Members of the team got together the next day and attended a Tiger game that featured a game winning walk-off homerun by Miguel Cabrera.
The 2017 gathering was capped off by the awarding of the 1st George Sahadi Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was awarded to Dan Triglia and presented by Lloyd Carr. Dan is a scholar-athlete at DeLaSalle Collegiate High School. Congratulations Dan! Thank you to all of you that attended this special night and helped make it our most successful BGFA gathering to date.
2016 BGFA Gathering
On June 8, 2016, the BGFA held it’s second Gallagher Football Alumni Reunion. This time the event was held at the old Bishop Gallagher High School building (which was Starr Detroit Academy at the time). Approximately 200 players, coaches and friends attended.
The highlight of the event was the induction of the first class into the Lancers Forever Hall of Fame. Fifteen former players, coaches and people who have provided distinguished service to BG or the BGFA were inducted (see our Hall of Fame page for each members name and bio). The event took place in the school cafeteria, but we had access to the school areas we loved the most, the gym and varsity locker room. There was a great meal and refreshments. Proceeds from the event went to support Starr Detroit Academy (see our Giving Back page for more information on Starr Detroit Academy). See the Gallery pages for pictures from the event.
2015 BGFA Gathering
On June 18, 2015, the BGFA held it’s first Gallagher Football Alumni reunion. The event took place at Lear Corporation World Headquarters in Southfield, MI. Approximately 150 former players, coaches and friends of Gallagher Football attended and enjoyed a wonderful evening reminiscing with friends and enjoying a bite to eat with a refreshment or two.
The event featured a presentation that outlined the formation of the BGFA, the history and tradition of Gallagher Football including some of the successes our players had in college and beyond, and concluded with an outline of the vision for the BGFA as an association. The presenters included; former coaches Tom Martilotti & Jack Masserang, Tom Markowski - long-time High School Sports Writer for the Detroit News, Lloyd Carr – former University of Michigan Football Coach, and Matt Simoncini – class of 1978 and current CEO of Lear Corporation. Jeff Spicuzzi was the MC for the evening. A variety of Gallagher merchandise was sold with proceeds from the sales going to the ChadTough organization (see our Giving Back page for more information on ChadTough). 2016 Michigan Football Tailgate
In September, the BGFA got together and attended a University of Michigan football game preceded by a tailgate hosted by former Lancer Angelo Matera. Thanks Angelo for a wonderful time! Thanks also to Julius Curry for helping us procure tickets to the game.
